The edges and center areas of the 6 inch Soft Edge ⅱ Backing Pad are the main wear areas. If there is a small amount of burrs or slight thinning on the edge, but it can still remain flat, it can continue to be used. However, if the edge is obviously cracked, delaminated or severely thinned, it may cause the polishing pad to be installed unstable, and it needs to be replaced at this time. The wear of the center area also needs attention. The normal PU material surface will have uniform traces of use, but if there are cracks, holes or obvious depressions, it will affect the distribution of polishing pressure and lead to poor polishing effect. In addition, if the surface becomes smooth and hardened, the adhesion will decrease, and the polishing pad will be easy to slip. In this case, it also needs to be replaced.
The flatness of the backing pad is crucial to its performance. You can place the backing pad on a flat table to observe whether it fits. If the edge is slightly warped but can be restored after pressing, it can still be used. However, if there is obvious warping or wavy deformation, it will cause uneven polishing and must be replaced. The deformation can also be judged by a rotation test: install the backing pad on the polishing machine and run it at low speed to observe whether it shakes. If the rotation is smooth, it means that the backing pad is in good condition; if there is obvious jumping or abnormal noise, it means that the deformation has affected the dynamic balance and needs to be replaced.
Adhesion is an important performance indicator of the backing pad. If the polishing pad is easily displaced or falls off, and it cannot be fixed even if the thread is tightened, it means that the PU material may be aged or the thread area may be worn, resulting in insufficient friction. In addition, the reduction of buffering performance will also affect the use experience, which is manifested as a hard feel during polishing, inability to absorb vibration, and easy "jumping" phenomenon. This is usually caused by the loss of PU elasticity or damage to the internal structure, and replacement is also necessary at this time.
The integrity of the threaded part is directly related to safety of use. It is necessary to check whether the M10/M14/M16 thread is slipped, deformed, or cannot be tightly engaged with the tray. If these problems are found, they must be replaced immediately, otherwise they may fall off during use and cause danger. At the same time, check the bonding layer between the backing pad and the metal tray. If cracking occurs, stop using it immediately.
The service life of the backing pad is closely related to the frequency of use and the intensity of the operation. Under normal use, it is recommended to check it every 6-12 months or after 200-300 hours of cumulative use, and replace it if necessary. For high-intensity use scenarios, such as professional places such as car beauty shops, it may need to be replaced every 3-6 months. Regular inspections can detect potential problems in time to avoid affecting the polishing quality.
